About Sapulpa, OK

This city with an unusual name was named after a member of the Kasihta tribe that had relocated from Alabama. This gentleman built and manned a trading post just to the southeast of where the town stands today, and the community grew around it. Currently, Sapulpa has a rich Native American heritage and has resources for residents and visitors to learn more about the Native Americans who called the area home.

In 1913, after a five-year debate about where the county seat of Bristow county would reside, Sapulpa became the undisputed winner and has since been the home of the county courthouse, which was repurposed a year later. There are community events throughout the year in this Tulsa suburb, making it a fun place to live or just stop for a visit.

Sapulpa once made a name for itself with large walnut crops. For years, though, it has affectionately been called “The Crystal City of the Southwest” because of its glass industry, and to this day, pottery and other manufacturers call Sapulpa home.
